Bookbug Training

Scottish Book Trust offers funded training courses to support early years professionals and volunteers to make sure that stories, songs and rhymes are part of every baby and young child’s life.

Our highly-rated training is a blend of practical activities, group discussions and up-to-date research and policy information, with a fun and relaxed approach.

All Bookbug training is funded and offered at no cost to the delegate. Please check you meet the eligibility criteria before applying or registering for a course.

Training

Bookbug Session Leader

Bookbug Session Leader training is for those who plan to deliver Bookbug Sessions (free song, rhyme and book sessions) in libraries or other community venues with groups of children (0–5 years) with their mums, dads or carers. We offer training for new Bookbug Session Leaders through an application process as well as online refresher courses. Bookbug for the Home

This online training is for practitioners and volunteers working in the community to support individual families. The training will enable them to enhance their family support work with songs, rhymes and stories. We offer training for new Bookbug for the Home practitioners through an application process as well as refresher courses.

Ready, Steady, Sing

This two-hour, in-person workshop is for Bookbug Session Leaders and Bookbug for the Home practitioners who want to boost their confidence leading singing. Applicants must have already completed Bookbug Session Leader or Bookbug for the Home training.

Support for Gaelic Bookbug Session Leaders

Wednesday 10 May 2023, 4pm tp 5pm

Join Lindsay Finnie – our Gaelic-speaking Early Years Trainer and experienced Gaelic Bookbug Session Leader – for this interactive twilight session. This Bookbug training webinar will be delivered in Gaelic and English, and is accessible to learners of Gaelic as well as fluent speakers.

This session will offer anyone involved in the delivery of Gaelic Bookbug Sessions an opportunity to connect with others across Scotland and find out about recent updates to the Bookbug programme. We’ll explore ways to incorporate useful, everyday Gaelic in Sessions and communicate the key benefits of sharing songs, rhymes and stories with families. We’ll share a new Gaelic Session Plan as well as other resources currently available to support Gaelic Session Leaders.

Gifting the Baby and Toddler Bags webinar

Thursday 1 June 2023, 10am to 11am

This webinar will support members of health visiting teams to have the greatest impact when gifting Bookbug bags to families. It covers the contents of the new Baby and Toddler Bookbug bags, and explores suggestions for effective gifting and sharing the key messages.
