A Good Place: Curriculum-linked activities

Leaf/bark rubbings and prints
EXA 0-02a MTH 0-19a
Invite the children to become little nature artists as they explore leaves of all shapes, colours and sizes — just like the creatures in the story searching for their good place.
Encourage the children to choose different leaves and lightly paint them before pressing them onto paper to reveal beautiful leaf prints. What patterns can they see? Do some leaves make bold marks while others create delicate shapes?
Take the adventure outdoors, too! Give the children crayons and paper, and let them discover the magic of leaf rubbings or even bark rubbings from nearby trees. They can compare the different textures and markings — which ones feel rough, smooth, bumpy or stripy?
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
EXA 0-04a SCN 0-01a SOC 0-08a
Using the story as a springboard for conversation, invite the children to become Earth Helpers as they explore the illustrations of litter and talk about how it affects the places where animals live.
What can we do to make our world cleaner, safer and happier for every creature?
Encourage the children to chat together, share ideas and solve problems:
- How can we use less?
- What things can we reuse instead of throwing away?
- What items can we recycle to give them a brand‑new life?
Once their ideas start flowing, support them in creating bright, bold posters to raise awareness. They can draw bins, recycling symbols, animals in clean habitats, or kind messages encouraging others to help the environment too.
