Conversations with Nan

Author: Sophie Gribben
Year: Future

'I don’t worry for my future,
But for yours,
And that of your children

What will the world look like
To them?'

My nan asks
For the umpteenth time

'Will the ocean rise in greed
And take the land that
Does not belong to it?

Will the animals disappear
Quietly and slowly until
we are the last left?

Will the temperature rise
Beyond boiling until
we are reduced to ash?'

She continues

I refute

'Will we stem the flow of change
And divert it
The other way?

Preserve our tides,
Our animals,
Our home.

For all future children,
I will work to make sure
The world will bloom
For them.'
