Celebrate

Author: Norma Neill, Uist Creative Writing Group

It is the little things that matter,
the everyday things we take for granted.
Unaware of their importance, til they go wrong,
we miss them one day when they just aren’t there.

In a world of chaos, war, demarcations,
earthquakes, floods, tsunamis, famine,
a pandemic of cataclysmic proportions,
a climate crisis which has become the norm,
too boring to mention,
we mark the disasters with anniversaries
where history repeats itself yet no one notices.
No one learns or stops and reads the signs.

In a world of global proportions let’s not forget
the little things that make the world go round.
Let’s celebrate our loved ones, milestones,
achievements, new beginnings, partnerships,
and yes the endings. Let’s count our blessings,
remember the kindnesses, the connections,
the smiles, the thanks, the helping hand.
All tied up with the respect we give each other
as we listen and celebrate together.
