And if you asked me

Author: Brighid Ó Dochartaigh
Year: Hope

And if you asked me where I put my hope
I’d have to tell you that I found a bird’s nest in the old shed last winter
with still one perfect tiny turquoise egg
unhatched.

I put the nest in a box
which just fits around it
and I put my hope in the nest
where one hope died
and my hope nestles up to that beautiful grief

And I carry them with me
everywhere.
