How to pay artist session fees

Scottish Book Trust invoices schools for part of the artist(s) fee after the event has taken place. It will cost:

• £75 per artist, £90 including VAT (some schools can reclaim VAT). We pay more than half of the artist's fee, so that each artist will receive £175 per session
• Nothing for travel and accommodation, we will cover these so you can invite an artist from anywhere in Scotland knowing we'll help them get to you

Some Arts Alive sessions will include more than one artist and each artist must receive the full fee due to them.

A session fee covers:

• a session (in-person or online) that lasts around an hour (no more than 90min)
• the preparation necessary and reasonable for that session

The Arts Alive fee is £175 per session. We also pay VAT if it is claimed, as well as expenses within set guidelines.

This is not a recommended fee, although we recognise that organisations in Scotland may use it as a benchmark. Artists working through Arts Alive may charge a higher fee if they choose to do so. If you are an organiser paying an artist outwith our programmes, please confirm the artist’s fee directly with them before confirming the booking.
