About The Ending Writes Itself by Evelyn Clarke

Evelyn Clarke is the pseudonym for Number One Sunday Times bestselling author V.E. Schwab, and screenwriter and YA author Cat Clarke.

In The Ending Writes Itself, world-famous author Arthur Fletch is dead. His final novel, the most anticipated book in history, remains unfinished. But the ending won’t write itself.

When six struggling authors are invited to Fletch's private Scottish island and presented with the opportunity of a lifetime, the plot thickens: whoever writes a worthy ending will receive a game-changing book deal and two million dollars.

Why have they been chosen to attend? Who is behind the invitation? And just how far would they go to secure a place on the bestseller list?

They have just seventy-two hours, a typewriter and a blank page. All they have to do is write.

Starting is often the hardest part. But getting to the end could be murder.

What can readers expect from The Ending Writes Itself?

A fun rollercoaster ride of a locked-room mystery, as well as an insiders’ view of what the publishing business is REALLY like. Think Knives Out meets Yellowface.

How do you choose what to read?

Recommendations from the booksellers in the amazing Portobello Bookshop, as well as recommendations from trusted friends.

What was your favourite book as a youngster?

For Cat it’s anything written by Christopher Pike ('I was completely obsessed with his books. American teenagers seemed so much cooler than British ones') and for Victoria it was anything written by Shel Silverstein.

How do you get out of a reading slump?

Non-fiction to get out of a slump – and it almost always works.

What's your favourite place to read?

Cat: In bed. Warmth and cosiness are non-negotiable. Adjacent pets are a bonus.

V: In a cafe with a fresh pot of tea and a slice of cake. Preferably on a rainy day.

What's the last great book you read?

Cat: Mr Sidhu’s Post Office by Amman Brar. I was lucky enough to get an early read of this gem coming out this July. I loved it with my whole heart.

V: How About Now by Kate Baer. Baer is one of my favourite poets. If she writes it, I will read it, simple as that.
