Why is Book Week Scotland moving?
Many reasons! The impetus for the move was feedback from our partners about the challenges of programming events in November. As a result, we surveyed these partners with a proposal to move the week to June 2026 and a majority were in favour.
Book Week Scotland is a huge project which engages a massive amount of organisations and audiences. Therefore, moving the week wasn’t an easy decision to make but it will provide a number of advantages and opportunities to Scottish Book Trust, the partners we work with and the audiences we engage, including: - Avoiding frequent inclement weather in November that causes cancellations and reduced attendance for organisations - Removing barriers for those who struggle, or are reluctant, to attend events in November - Allowing time to explore the events and communities Scottish Book Trust wants to engage with Book Week Scotland - Allowing Scottish Book Trust to provide more funding opportunities for partners as part of Book Week Scotland 2027 - Alleviating organisational bottle-necking leading up to, and during, November
