Scottish Book Trust and Scots Hoose Yaldi (SHY) - https://www.scotshooseyaldi.com/-(this link will open in a new window) are workin in pairtnership tae improve Scots provision for bairns, weans and young folk in Scotland’s schuils. The darg directly supports the new statutory duty unner the Scottish Languages Act 2025 tae promote and support Scots language education in schuils through the dissemination and application o Scots Hoose Yaldi educational resources and CLPL for dominies in primary and secondary schuils across Scotland .
The role employed directly by Scottish Book Trust and based in the School Communities team in Scottish Book Trust will work closely wi the SHY team and individual schuils or key stakeholders across Scotland tae neb oot weys that they can engage wi and benefit fae the SHY materials tae promote Scots in schuils. They will forby deliver professional learnin opportunities tae a range o audiences, in-person and online via Teams, tae improve Scots provision for bairns, weans and young folk in Scotland’s schuils .

Key responsibilities
- Support practitioners to engage with Scots Hoose Yaldi’s resources and programmes through effective administration, coordination and communication
- Design, plan and deliver CLPL sessions for practitioners to engage with Scots Hoose Yaldi resources and programmes
- Maintain existing and establish new networks with key stakeholders including with external partners to champion Scots Hoose Yaldi resources and programmes
- Design and develop learning resources for learning professionals, pupils and parents
- Gather evidence of impact and good practice and showcase these effectively, both in-person and online to support the Scots Hoose Yaldi programmes and Scottish Book Trust
- Work with other teams within Scottish Book Trust to ensure knowledge, experience and contacts are shared across the organisation to aid effective programme delivery
Knowledge, skills and experience
Essential criteria
- You must be a Scots speaker (of at least one dialect of Scots)
- A full, clean UK driving licence and access to a vehicle insured for business use is required
- The post-holder must be prepared to undertake regular travel across Scotland, from time to time travel elsewhere in the UK, including occasional overnight stays
- You will require a suitable PVG from Disclosure Scotland
The successful candidate will have:
- Significant experience of working with schools, educators and other professional practitioners to develop and maintain productive relationships
- Experience of outreach work, including confident and effective creation and delivery of presentations, training sessions and workshops, in-person and online via Teams or other similar platforms
- Experience of creating learning resources and support materials for a range of audiences, including parents, pupils and learning professionals
- Experience of dealing directly with a wide range of stakeholders to promote and embed new practices
- Excellent influencing skills with the ability to enthuse stakeholders to drive participation and engagement
- Confident in the use of IT, including Microsoft Office applications
- Exceptional organisational, planning and time management skills, with the ability to organise own workload, manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Ability to work confidently and effectively across different teams
- Ability to share and drive your passion and enthusiasm about Scots language in relation to children’s and young people’s books, reading, writing and their potential to transform the lives of young people
Other information
- The post holder will be based in Scotland and likely be a 'remote' worker
- Attendance at Scottish Book Trust offices in Edinburgh will be required from time to time. The successful candidate will be required to attend a three-day induction at our office in Edinburgh at the beginning of their employment, and likely a further three days within the first month. Travel, subsistence and accommodation costs will be covered by Scottish Book Trust.
