Young writers (12–18) winner

Isla Daly, age 12

The Nicolson Institute

Pressed between pages, the bookmark waited patiently. It knew secrets of dragons, heartbreaks, and quiet afternoons. When the book closed, it dreamed of being opened again, longing for fingers, light, and the gentle pause where stories breathe before returning faithfully to its place, ready for tomorrow's chapter, and hope waits.

Young writers (5–11) winner

Rowan B Hunter-Wade, age 11

Ayr Grammar Primary

It was only a second, a tiny moment.

The air still and warm,

Light through the linen curtains,

The sound of pages being turned,

A rainbow of beanbags,

Dust and cobwebs dancing on covers of old books,

A jar of bookmarks

everything felt like it was going to be okay...
