“Sorry, missus, ah’ve chipped ma baw intae yer back garden.”
Sheila considered the skinny wee scruff on her doorstep, then pointed her walking stick. “Go through the kitchen and get it yourself.”
He entered. “Whit’s that nice smell?”
“Cockaleekie… Want a wee bowl?”
He hesitated. “Please, missus.”
“Call me Sheila.”

My heartbeat was deafening, as I tried to keep silent, hiding in the corner in the darkness. Surely they would hear me – what would happen then? There’s nobody who can help me, because it’s my friends who are searching for me.
