Young writers (12–18) winner
Shira Woolfson, age 15
Like a time-worn map, lines trace journeys on her aged face. Frown lines hint at storms; gripping onto salt-sprayed life, screaming into the raging tempest. Smile lines suggest at sunny days; joy sparkling like the bubbles in champagne.
They tell her she does not have long.
She smiles: another adventure.

Connie Devlin, age 8
The girl named Alexa put on her wellies and ran out in the rain to a big black portal. She stepped inside and there was black smoke everywhere. Then a magical bat came and cleared it all away. When it cleared a magical land appeared. The girl was amazed.
