In the quiet valley, a silver fox watched the sunrise bleed across frosted fields. She was small, but her hunger was vast. Through thorn and shadow, she chased whispers of mice, outwitting owls and winter alike. By dusk, belly full, she curled beneath ancient oak, dreaming of spring’s return softly

‘Get away from the fox!’ They shouted. They didn’t understand. I hugged my fox tighter, breathing in its musty scent. They continued shouting, threatening, begging me to get away from my fox. ‘It’s a monster,’ they explained. ‘It’ll kill you.’
