Watching

Cage opens

Freedom at last

Or at least I thought

Landscape spread out for miles

I spread my wings, ready to take flight

I leap off the base, my feathers bristle in the wind

Nothing holding me back, nothing keeping me down

Suddenly everything changed without explanation

Bang

Thud

Young writers (5–11) winner

Robyn Hunter-Kelly, 11
