Splash.

The dirt smacks my face,

dribbling down to my lips.

Though you stand, untouched,

in your hideous green stompers.

The weather forecast lies.

I swear I am not envious,

although would it kill you to share?

Me standing and you stomping

while you say, "You're always unprepared."

Young writers (5–11) winner

Joshua Reid, 11

The wellies were convinced they were superheroes. They zoomed across the playground, cape‑less but confident. When their owner tried to walk normally, they shouted, “TO THE PUDDLES!” and dragged him straight into the biggest splash zone. Everyone got soaked. The wellies called it a victory. The teachers disagreed.
