Ensure everyone can benefit from the life-changing magic of stories.
Reading and writing are fundamental life skills that offer a pathway out of poverty. From improving employability, social skills and family bonding to reducing stress and anxiety, developing language skills and doing better at school, the benefits of reading, even for a short time each day, are varied and life-changing.
Results of a survey commissioned by Scottish Book Trust reveal that in Scotland, under a third of parents (31%) read to their children every day. This drops to just 15% for those that were never read to by their own parents or carers as a child, underlining the importance and long term impact of reading with children from an early age.
We want everyone to have an equal opportunity to thrive through reading and writing.
You can write the next chapter
Scottish Book Trust has been helping people across Scotland to thrive through books and stories for 21 years. But we need you to help write the next chapter.
Could you give £21 a month to change lives through reading and writing?
£21 a month could bring books to life for children in care, support families living in challenging social circumstances and reduce social isolation through sharing stories.
