Recently retired after  40 years as a criminal defence lawyer, and a partner in Scotland’s oldest law firm, I have turned a lifetime of courtroom experience into fiction. Throughout my legal career I encountered countless unusual cases and fascinating characters, many of which have inspired my writing.
I am the author of 17 legal thrillers that blend courtroom drama with crime fiction and feature Scottish defence lawyer Robbie Munro. To the best of my knowledge, I am the only author currently writing Scottish-based, contemporary legal thrillers The books are currently available in bookshops as paperbacks and across most platforms as eBooks and audiobooks.

While much crime fiction is told from the perspective of the police, my novels explore the other side of the justice system—that of the suspect’s only true ally, their lawyer. Robbie Munro is a defence solicitor with a distinctive view of the Scottish criminal justice system and a complicated personal life, made even more challenging by his immediate family.

My books aim to be authentic, often humorous, and are rooted in real-life experience, highlighting the gap that can sometimes exist between the law and justice. As a father of four and a full-time lawyer, finding the time to pursue publication was a challenge, so I initially self-published some of the series before being signed by Vinci Books. The series has been optioned for TV.

I also enjoy public speaking, sharing many amusing stories gathered over decades in court.
