I am a partner in Scotland's oldest law firm, working in the field of criminal defence for over 35 years. In that time I have dealt with many unusual court cases, met many interesting characters and have turned fact into fiction by writing a series of ten (so far) legal thrillers, featuring criminal defence lawyer Robbie Munro, a man with his very own view of the Scottish criminal justice system and a complicated personal life, made all the more complicated by members of his immediate family.

Crime fiction is generally written from the perspective of a police officer. My books view things from the other side of the justice fence, that of a suspect's only friend, his lawyer. My books contain a great deal of humour, are true to life and highlight the gulf between the law and justice. As a father of four and a full-time lawyer, I had little time to find a publisher and so self-published my first five books before being snapped up by the discerning folk at Sandstone Press.

I enjoy public speaking and relaying many of the, mostly, amusing stories I've gathered over my years in court. (Photo credit: Angus Blackburn)
