My main interests are social realism and historical drama. I am interested in what happens to real people when confronted with unexpected challenges in the real world. I have just completed a novel called Exiles of Erin, which is about an Irish Catholic immigrant family from rural County Donegal to Glasgow in 1912, just in time for World War I and the stirring events of the Red Clyde. I have also completed a second novel called The Cretan Connection which is about an ordinary Scottish soldier caught up in the extraordinary events of the wartime Cretan Resistance. These two novels demonstrate my interest in the challenges presented by writing historical fiction in establishing the balance between fiction and authenticity.

I am very experienced in giving writing talks and workshops, and am an excellent communicator. (Photo credit: Jon Love)
