Rose McDonagh
I am the author of a novel, One Came Back (Trapeze / Orion), and a short story collection, The Dog Husband (Reflex Press). I have many years of experience running writing workshops and I can offer a wide range of sessions to suit different community groups’ needs. I particularly specialise in writing workshops around Getting Started with Creative Writing, Creative Writing for Wellbeing and Writing the Uncanny. I can also offer sessions on Getting Published.
I am delighted to be invited to talk about and read from my own work. My writing explores the strange and uncanny in everyday life and spans from quiet literary fiction to elements of the thriller and folk horror genres. It is often set in Scotland, in the both the highlands and lowlands. I have been shortlisted for a number of writing prizes including the Bridport Prize, the Caledonia First Novel Award and the Lucy Covendis Prize, and my first novel was a BBC Book at Bedtime.
I have worked as a counsellor and a community project staff member and have run writing workshops in community groups, schools, bookshops, ex-offender support services, universities and festivals. I bring an empathic, gentle approach to writing activities.
