I am a retired NHS consultant forensic psychiatrist, author of two memoirs and a professional speaker, including working as a cruise line enrichment lecturer (My memoirs: ‘I don’t talk to dead bodies’ and ‘From crime scenes to cruise ships’). As a doctor I looked after mentally ill criminals. My talks are all storytelling format, with lots of bizarre, humorous and scary anecdotes relating to true crime and mental illness, with an underpinning theme of destigmatisation of mental illness. I encourage the audience to see the human beings behind the sensationalist newspaper headlines.

My other talks are also storytelling format, but are more inspirational, and focus on overcoming adversity and developing a positive mindset at times of major life transitions. (I retired from the NHS on my 55th birthday and my husband died of a brain tumour the same day). I have gone on to publish two books, started an art business, and become a globetrotting, international cruise line speaker. The next chapter may not be what you planned, but it doesn’t have to be a bad one. I am happy to talk to any size of group any setting (community, libraries, book festivals,  large theatre shows or conferences).
