Morag Hood's headshot

I'm a picture book author and illustrator from Edinburgh with an MA in Children's Book Illustration. My first book Colin and Lee, Carrot and Pea won the UKLA award in 2018, and I AM BAT was shortlisted for the Bookbug Picture Book Prize 2019, meaning it was gifted to every P1 child in Scotland.

I love making up stories, print-making and cutting and sticking. My favourite things to draw are eyebrows. I love to do workshops which combine readings alongside live drawing and craft or drawing activities to suit the age group. For nursery to P2s, I tend to use a few of my books in each session, but with one being the major focus for the craft and drawing activity. A session usually includes discussions of friendship, differences, emotions and how I illustrate. The aim is to foster a love of reading alongside encouraging them to be creative and use their imaginations.

I also really enjoy working with older children, talking with them about what it is like to be an author and illustrator, and getting them drawing and writing themselves. We explore the interactions between words and pictures, and creative ways of making stories. (Photo credit: Rachel Spence)
