I have published 250 books for children and am happy to give talks, performances or run writing workshops to children or adults.

My books include poetry, picture books, fiction and some non-fiction too.

I participate in book festivals (including the Borders Festival and Wigtown Festival) and visit schools. I cater for the entire primary school age group but am experienced with older age groups too.

I have taken part in events including conferences for teachers, librarians, and aspiring writers.

My non-fiction books about Walter Tull, first black British officer in World War One – and professional footballer - appeal to the widest age range and engage the most reluctant readers. They topped the chart for the most borrowed book at Perth Prison - showing that a book, readable by a 9-year-old, can also appeal to older children and adults. These books often feature in Black History and Remembrance events.

Another true-life inspirational story Star! tells the story of Nadia Nadim, an Afghan refugee now a female football star, activist, linguist and doctor.

NEW - my collected poems All Together Now illustrated by Nick Sharratt.

I am a National Poetry Day Ambassador.
