My novella Lost People, published in 2024, features refugees in a fragmented future world.

During my 40-year writing career I have written eight novels, mostly historical, including The Sea Road, Hy Brasil, Voyageurs, Light and The Gathering Night. I've also published short stories, poems, essays and articles. I believe that literature has a crucial role to play in how we address environmental crisis and our increasingly dystopic world. My most recent non-fiction writing on this subject is cited on my website.

I have taught writing in many contexts, from primary schools to university and in the wider commuinity. I am available for workshops, mentoring, talks and readings.
