Lyndsey Croal's headshot

Lyndsey Croal is an award-winning Scottish author of strange and speculative fiction. Her short stories and essays have appeared internationally in over eighty magazines and anthologies, and her longer works include the collections Limelight and Other Stories and Dark Crescent. Her writing spans a range of genres, with a focus on science fiction, folklore, eco fiction, and horror. She is a Scottish Book Trust New Writers Awardee and has been a finalist for the Shirley Jackson and British Fantasy Awards.

She has edited a number of projects, and regularly runs writing workshops, including on building suspense and tension, eco fiction, putting together short story collections, finding inspiration in folklore, and generative writing.

She is a confident public speaker and has appeared on panels and performed her work at several events, including with Cymera Fest, Dundee Book Festival, the Edinburgh International Book Festival, and many more.

She grew up the Highlands and often writes stories inspired by Scottish folklore, with a particular focus coastal tales.

She now lives in Edinburgh where she co-founded the popular Edinburgh Science Fiction & Fantasy writers’ group. With a professional background in climate and nature policy and advocacy, she enjoys exploring environmental themes in her work.
