For 25 years I've been a full-time writer, poet, novelist and children's author. Some 40 of my books are in print, and my children's works appear in 16 languages. I have long experience of visiting schools and libraries to undertake readings, give presentations and lead workshops. In classrooms I've undertaken innumerable poetry and prose workshops, especially for 8-12 year olds.

I love what I do and I love being a writer. In all my events I seek to impart that passion to audiences, whether they're composed of youngsters or adults. When working with adult audiences in library settings or as part of festivals I give talks about my work and answer questions. I also give presentations on getting published.

I live in the west of Argyll so it's easiest for me to travel to other parts of western Scotland or the Highlands, but I've led events in every corner of the country and I'm always happy to think of travelling well beyond Argyll and the Highlands whenever I can. (Photo credit: Kristina Hayward)
