I write middle grade fiction and adore quirky female lead characters with strong voices. My stories combine gritty reality with magical realism. What I enjoy most is imagining new places, creatures or worlds; I also have a particular fondness for all things spooky as well as dreaming up despicable villains.

Twister is a Sunday Times Children's Book of the Week and chosen by The Guardian as the must-read kid's book for the summer, 2018. It has been shortlisted for the Salford Children's Book Award, the Fantastic Book Awards, and more.

I visit bookshops, libraries, schools, book clubs, and have taken part in events at Hay Festival, Outwith Festival and Salford Children's Book Award. Currently I'm writer in residence at All Saints Primary in Greenock. I'm enthusiastic and love firing up imaginations with my workshops, empowering both girls and boys aged 8-12 in classes or groups. Stories can be tricky to write so, with an emphasis on fun, I work hard to break down barriers and give children tips and tricks that make the process easier for them. I'm a great believer in encouraging those less confident at writing because I was that person when I was at school.
