I’m from the Scottish Borders, and write in Scots and English – mainly plays, spoken word, short stories, song lyrics. I’m also a musician, and use music and DIY film in performance. I’m interested in technology/cross-disciplinary writing and have presented an immersive hybrid AR (augmented reality) community Halloween play with Alchemy Film & Arts, Hawick. I have 13 years’ experience teaching creative writing with The Open University in Scotland and my plays have been on BBC Radio and won Fringe Firsts. I enjoy working with community groups, recording voices and helping them to have fun and gain confidence by using kit in innovative ways, including interactives and making. I’m part of the Borders STEM/STEAM artist collective, Creative Coathanger, and have done creative STEM sessions in schools. I have a BBC radio background and have written books on writing for the ear, dramatic techniques and deliberate practice for writers, as well as Nanonovels flash fiction. If you’re an event organiser looking for something a bit different around Scots language, tech and performance, get in touch. Mostly I work online, offering writing, publishing and audio skills workshops for writers’ groups and 121.
