Jeff Zycinski
A childhood in Glasgow’s Easterhouse and then a career in Scottish commercial radio and at BBC Scotland is remembered in my memoir, The Red Light Zone, and forms the basis of my talks, readings, lectures and workshops. The book covers my work in genres such as news, arts, comedy and events and I have gathered a small treasure trove of audio and video clips to use as illustrations.
The Red Light Zone has been received well by critics here in Scotland and as far afield as Spain and Los Angeles. The Daily Express described it as a “must read for any student considering a career in the media” while The Scottish Review pegged me as a “supreme anecdotalist”.
Hopefully the stories of my adventures – from the Highlands to Hollywood – will inspire others to pursue a career in broadcasting, journalism, writing or comedy (Performing stand-up comedy in Glasgow remains my scariest memory. Well, that and being shot at on the way to school).
