Iyad Hayatleh
I'm a Palestinian poet and translator who was born and grew up in a Palestinian refugee camp in Syria. I started writing poetry early and published my work in Arabic magazines, giving many readings in Syria, Lebanon and Yemen. I have lived in Glasgow since the year 2000.
I am a member of Scottish PEN and the former Artists in Exile Glasgow and have taken part in many cultural events, and translation and poetry workshops, as well as giving many readings in the UK, including the Edinburgh International Book Festival.
I have published some of my poems in magazines and collective poetry books in Scotland in both Arabic and English. Most of my poems discuss the themes of exile and identity, torn between many places I call home and the struggle to build up a new mixed identity of cultural diversity.
