I’m Gillian Spiller and I’m a picture book author and poet. I have three picture books available currently - The Blue Sock (2019), On The Shelf (2021) and A Shell for Cleo (2022) (illustrated by John Lim, published by Marshall Cavendish) – as well as The Christmas Sock (2020), published as part of a charity Christmas anthology, and a personalised book, Star Sailor (2020, Marshall Cavendish). All are suitable for three to eight years old, and they highlight themes such as inclusion, belonging, empathy, sharing, making space, parent-child relationships, recycling and the ocean environment. My children’s poetry can be found on The Dirigible Balloon website and the British Council’s Learn English Kids website. As a former early years and primary teacher, I have design and deliver interactive and prop-filled picture book reading sessions with plenty of opportunities for the children to be involved at every stage, and to participate in craft activities. I am also well-equipped to deliver engaging poetry sessions for all primary levels. Please do contact me if any of the above is of interest.
