I am fascinated by women’s social history, particularly from the Victorian period to the Second World War. In my fiction I love to shine a light on some of the lesser-known aspects of Scottish history and bring to the fore the experiences of women in those times.

My first historical novel, The Rescue Sisters, is set in Stirling in 1900 and has child rescue and migration as its backdrop. My second, The Asylum Women, is set in 1911 and is about four women whose lives intertwine within a Scottish district lunatic asylum. My next book, set between 1914-19, will be about the relationship between a young woman and a German man living in Scotland at the outbreak of the First World War.

I can deliver talks on the history behind my novels, the researching and writing of historical fiction, as well as giving readings and participating in panel discussions. I have experience of podcast and radio interviews (recorded and live).

I have an MLitt in Creative Writing from the University of Stirling.
