Born in Hamilton in 1952, I am married with five children. I live with Kay, my wife, in Tain in the Highlands. I have lived in the Highlands since 1986 and have found it a wonderful place to live, bring up kids and work in the creative arts.

I have worked in touring theatre since 1985, before which I worked as a ceilidh band drummer, circus hand and an illustrator. Originally my theatre work was with Clown Jewels, devising productions. Since receiving my first commission in 2000 I have worked as a playwright and gone on to form, with Euan Martin, our writer-led theatre company, Right Lines. I direct, write and animate for my childrens' theatre company Cartoon Theatre which combines animation with live performance.

I can offer workshops in all these areas. My work has always involved an element of comedy, whether a spot cartoon or a 90-minute play. I feel it is an immensely rewarding field to work in, combining the creative forces of inspiration with the hard work of honing and redrafting. It is my enthusiasm for these processes that keeps me going and makes me enjoy discussion and analysis of them with others.
