Books, puppets and songs all feature in my workshops. Working with young children, many of whom are not yet fluent in Gaelic, means I need to be interactive and find ways that they can understand and enjoy my books. Right now I am working on my 9th Gaelic children's book, the third featuring Grumpa, a rather grumpy old man with a good heart. My second Grumpa book, Grumpa agus an Latha Fuaimneach, won Leabhar na Bliadhna (clann), which is Book of the Year (children) 2019 at the Royal National Mod.
Although I write for pre-school to P4, Grumpa is aimed at children from P1-P4, depending on whether they are independent readers or if their parents are reading with them. Fluent younger children can also enjoy the stories.
I can adapt my books to my audiences at workshops. To help children and parents I am hoping to have an audio version of Grumpa's latest story. My monthly Bookbugs these days include opposite ends of the age spectrum from babies of weeks old to great grandparents.
Events include pre-school and school visits, Gaelic open days, World Book Day Events, NessBookFest, The Nairn Book and Art Festival and numerous workshops around the highlands.
