I'm experienced in giving readings, talks and workshops on a variety of writing and writing-related topics, including drama, short stories, novels and academic writing. I give workshops on how to research, structure, write and edit most forms of prose writing, including essays for students at school and university.

I've held writing classes for adults wishing to write family memoirs and primary school children writing stories. One of my hour-long fiction writing workshops consists of encouraging the class to collaborate in creating the plot and outlines of a story in whatever genre they prefer (crime, romance, sci-fi, fantasy). The suggestions they make build its setting, characters, back stories and other related elements. The object of the exercise is to illustrate the workings of the genre and the creative process.

I lead discussions about most aspects of both factual and fictional writing from characterisation, settings, and structure, to editing and proofreading. (Photo credit: Sara Bain)
