Tomorrow today

Author: Avril Duthie
Year: Future

The birds outside still sing their songs
Oblivious of tomorrow today
The sea it still ebbs and then it flows
The sun still shines then goes away
Oblivious of tomorrow today
All the while I am thinking of tomorrow today
The people I see are not far away
Just not close enough to say how are you
The walkers the joggers they all pass me by
While I dream of my tomorrow today
As I walk through the park I notice more things
I sit on a bench and look at the trees and wonder what stories these trees could tell me
I look to the ground and notice some stones
All painted and colourful for our NHS
The key workers I think are doing a great job
For tomorrow today they help us each day
I look to the sky and a rainbow appears
There is hope for tomorrow even though it's today
The future I realise just won't be the same
But my plans for tomorrow have changed since today
I rise from my bench and walk up the hill
Reflecting my thoughts on tomorrow today
I will look to the future with confidence and air
In the knowing life's mystery has started today
So no more today for tomorrow's the new
A bright coloured future for all us to share
