Second Chance

Author: Barbara Prater
Year: Future

The air smells sweeter,

The ground feels softer

Beneath my stumbling feet.

I look forward to doing

Those chores I ignored.

I anticipate the future,

Where I never considered

The need to plan,

Because life was forever.

As the doors slide

Softly behind me,

I cross the car park.

Climb into the car,

Relax and breathe

As we leave the grounds.

An ambulance enters.

I feel for the passenger,

I wish them well.

I hope they too recover,

And also escape,

For their second chance.
