Celebration

Author: Barbara Hunter

After the fever had burned the brow
of planet Earth,

the shadow on its lungs dispersed
by bravery, loss and vaccination,

we grieved, then breathed again,
inhalation,

planned again, expectation,
reaching out, communication,

put aside our hesitation
decided on a destination,

safe distancing, the limitation,
spread with love, an invitation.

Now here we are, unmasked at last

free to laugh, free to smile
free to share a board awhile.

Euphoric conversation, appetites satisfied.
A celebration of human needs, pacified
