Be Strong

Author: Lerwick Creative Writing Group

When SSE regret to inform you that your monthly electricity charge is going up
When you try to get out of bed on a cold winter’s morning
When the car makes it ten metres before the fan belt goes
When bubbles start coming out of the washing machine
When it’s been blowing from the Arctic for the past 48 hours
When your child asks a question you feel unable to answer.
When the frozen food in the freezer is frozen no longer
Yet another power cut
When you wake just after midnight, and your buried thoughts rise with you
When you realise you’ve run out of wine
When no one is home when you call

keep trying
persevere
don’t say anything to yourself you wouldn’t say to your best friend
breathe
breathe
it will all be fine
it’ll all fall into place
things happen for a reason
there’s always someone worse off than yourself
be gentle with yourself
let people help you
vulnerability is good
be strong
