Friendship isn't always between human and human. After years of addiction and anxiety, my best friend came in the form of a heavily pregnant street cat, who was underweight and ill. I took her in, she gave birth to 6 kittens who found wonderful homes. I knew I had to be healthy and sober in order to protect her. A cat may not actually give you unconditional love – in fact, Margot can be incredibly judgmental, but she is really who I credit for getting back on the straight and narrow. Now, almost ten years down the line, I'm living in the beautiful Scottish highlands with her and two of her sons, doing my Master's degree in Classics. :)
