The powerful thing that is Friendship
I enjoy a good cleansing. I put on Native American Indian music on, get the Crystals out, burn a candle and burn some sage. I ask the crystals, sage and the universe to cleanse myself of any bad energy around me. Some of my neighbours look at me through the window thinking I am strange may even call me a witch. I did do it on Beltane which is a Celtic festival marking the beginning of summer and celebrating fertility. Also linked to witches, it may have even caused rumours about me. However I do this when I feel it is needed. It does make me look a bit strange in other people’s eyes, however not to those who really know me. These people are my friends. These wonderful strange people come into other's lives in the most strange and unlikely situations. Some stay for a while and then leave, others stay and love you unconditionally. They never judge and they join in with your craziness.
Like any relationship they can be here to teach us a very hurtful lesson or just a lesson in life filled with love.
Like a good book that you can't put down or a book you put down for days, weeks or even months. Then pick it back up again just where you left the story and start reading again. What adventures will be next for you and friends?
My friends are there for me at my lowest of lows and the highest of highs. Ready with tissues at hand or a banner held high.
They know your worst habits and your best ones. They make your life so much brighter just by being there. You have a level of understanding with each other like siblings do. Even becoming the sibling you never knew you needed in your life.
You call them in tears and they always know what to say. No matter how dark life gets just one text or call from them makes you smile and you realise that you are not alone. They make you want to be a better person and you secretly admire them, for how you see them. How strong they are? Even when they do not see it themselves.
They are there for the invisible battles with our own inner demons even if they have no idea they are fighting beside you. Just having them there in the same room or a hug you have been needing sending the demons packing even if it is for just a moment.
They have their own super power and they have no idea they have it. They are the support network you never knew you needed.
Why are we always so scared to connect to our friends when we are struggling even though we have this amazing connection? We still hesitate to call out to the ones we love in hard times, they always seem to notice when your having a rough time and come to you. 'We have noticed you're very quiet these days are you ok?'
Sometimes they know before you do. Friends are the family that we choose, there is a wonderful quote that my favourite character Acheron from Sherrilyn Kenyon novels says about Family. 'We have three kinds of family. Those we are born to, those who are born to us and those we let into our hearts'.
