One day

Author: Laura May Alexander

'That will be us one day.'
I like the way you said that with so much conviction, as though you are willing to be true. No doubt in your voice that it won’t happen.
It is in these moments that I truly cherish our friendship, even though it has been so long that we can’t quite remember how we met and how our relationship came to be what it is today.
As time goes on our relationship will only continue to grow, I look forward to what comes next, to all our adventures and video calls where we can sit in silence doing our own thing, simply enjoying each other’s company.
The women in front of us have been friends for a long time, it is clear to see this through how comfortable they are with one another, how similar their body language is and how easily they finish each other’s sentences.
Sometimes I feel our similarities can hurt our friendship. It can be frightening to be known so well but then I remember how comfortable I am talking to you without fear of being judged and I laugh at how we share the same thoughts yet have such different opinions on the books and movies we like.
I appreciate how much interest you show in my love for all things horror-related even though you can’t stand the sight of blood.
It is a privilege to grow old with you and to get to share every part of my life with you. To go through all the stages of our friendship that is still to come, even the arguments and bad times that will come along with the good.
I am grateful to have you in my life and to have experienced a friendship like this.
