"MUM"

Author: Joyce Stokes

My sisters and I held Mum’s hand, talking to her, as her favourite music played softly in the background.

Our Mum, and lifelong friend, had always been there for us no matter what.

A tiny bundle of unconditional love and friendship, that was Mum.

Sweet, kind, funny, and soooo loved.

Whether a skint knee or a life-changing emergency, she was always the one I’d turn to for advice and support, she had an almost 'magical' way of making everything better.

Four in the morning, the smell of coconut oil and cool air filled the room. She knew we were there and opened her eyes.

Five days, four nights, watching, waiting, hoping, praying, and now…

“…Family!” was her last word for us.

We cried as that familiar twinkle in her eyes faded to a final flicker.

A tiny lady with a huge heart, my Mum and Best Friend, touched the lives of all who knew her.

It’s been 10 years now since she passed, and although there remains a massive ‘Mum-shaped’ hole in my heart, her legacy of unconditional love and friendship still lives on.
