Friendship Forever

Author: Margaret Bowman

Where would we be without our friends
Our buddies, our mates, our pals;
They'll always be there when you need some advice
Or a jolly in town with the gals.
Friends are for life, they come and they go
Like the tide that sweeps the shore,
Some may be close, some further away
A constant ebb and flow.

From an early age we forge our paths
Our likes, our tastes, our way;
The folks we meet, the links we make
Are built on, day upon day.
A rare artefact surely is a true friend
One to keep, always to treasure,
A bond of respect built up o'er the years
An alliance, too hard to measure.

There's always one friend, someone you trust
Who is there for you, night or day;
A special person who came into your life
Prepared always to meet you halfway.
They raise your spirits when you are sad
Knowing the right things to say and do,
Yet in other happy, carefree times
They can jest and laugh with you.

Sad is the person without any friends
On the outside, looking in on a crowd;
Yet some folks prefer their own solitude
Quiet, in control, never loud.
These are the thinkers, whose focus in life
Creates a world which rotates around them,
They're happy to live in their own private thoughts
Which no one should really condemn.

For others, they need the noise, the chat
Surrounded by friends bound together;
Their need for companions will always be there
Whether sunny or inclement weather.
But you're never alone with a bunch of pals
Strong are the bonds that hold us tight
They lie deeply embedded within our souls
Keeping the flame of friendship alight.
