If it wasn’t for Rosie
I would never have met him,
the casual mention that I had always
wanted to take piano lessons,
her saying 'I’ve got just the man for you'
and handing me a piece of paper
with a number scribbled on it.
If it wasn’t for Rosie
I wouldn’t have my favourite photograph,
the one where me and my piano teacher
stand arms linked, beaming like the sun
as a flurry of confetti cast into the air
by Rosie rains down on us,
captured at the perfect moment.
If it wasn’t for Rosie
I would never have dreamed
of wearing the most colourful dress
in my wardrobe, as requested,
to be part of the rainbow congregation
gathered in the church
to say goodbye to our friend Rosie.
