A poem for ma old pal
Author: Juliet Ridgway-Tait
Year: Friendship
Over the netball court
Our cheeky eyes met
Flashing full of fun
My, how much we shared, cared
Bared our souls just as easily as
Two knobs of butter in a pan
Laughing fit to burst about what?
I don’t know.
Adventures – every day was one
Exploring ourselves as we swanked the streets
Skating through possibilities
Swapping clothes, styling our personalities
Woolworths makeup and colourful lips
Experimented. Read mags, smoked fags
Considered the lads.
Then just like that, you had to go -
Off to a better life
Heartbroken we sang
Our special song
And now, after all these years
Let's get down to how we’ve fared
Strip back time
Twinkle again
And laugh
At what?
