I know that I'm a woman

Author: Kirsty Crommie

I know that I’m a woman
And I’m one of a kind.
Treat me with respect, I’ll give it back but,
I’ll never walk two steps behind.

I know that I’m a woman
When you think that you can judge
My hair, my clothes, my body fat,
Try getting to know me first.

I know that I’m a woman
When people try not to stare
Because someone, somewhere, down the line said women
Can’t have body hair.

I know that I’m a woman,
But I don’t owe you any debt.
When I’ve been taught that every noise
Might just be a threat.

I know that I’m a woman
And I’ll define myself.
Whoever, whatever I choose to be,
Is no business of anyone else.

I know that I’m a woman.
If you goad me, I won’t bite.
But I will choose how I look and act.
It’s my body, it’s my right.

I know that I’m a woman
And I don’t need your validation.
I, alone, make my decisions.
I’m my own damn fine creation.

I know that I’m a woman.
I’m fierce, I’m strong, I’m free.
I know that I’m a woman,
But above all else I’m me.
