What Lies Beyond

Author: Blair H Smith
Year: Adventure

She bores me, but this does not mean

she owns my horizon.

He declared my limitations, yet

could never know my limits.

School reports described my means,

but not my ends of progress.

My job description here denies

existence past the working week.

I did not meet your expectations; you

never asked how these matched mine,

and nor did I.

None hazarded, though,

how far I will go,

nor any sign to recognise

the boundaries they rhetorised.

So, believe these, or ignore:

the choice presents, and, more,

fulfils itself.

I

fly

towards the unknowns

and, in unloosing,

jettison the anchor I have weighed.

Adventure lies beyond.
