An Adventure Junkie's Fine Day Oot!

Author: Margaret Bowman
Year: Adventure

Och! Well, anither weekend is here noo, and tae dae what - I don't know
I might go and pit a washing on, see some friends – go and see a show
It's been a "full-on" week that I've pit in, time to climb down nice and steady,
But I've nothing planned Och! noo that's just grim – I'm bored tae tears already!

I'm looking fir a life on the "cutting edge" just tae set my heart a-racing
Adventure calls, I'm in the fast lane and I'm looking fir something bracing.
I might plan tae go wild camping – Aye!, and live off nature's land
Or I might go and blow ma mind, be the front of a girls' rock band!

Och! I know – I'll set ma sights on "thrill-seeking" that's gonna be a blast
Perhaps I'll take a bungee jump then spiral doon, dead fast
I could go wild swimming in a freezing loch, or tombstone aff a cliff
But there's a problem, sad to say – I'm terrified... Aye, scared stiff!

I could maybe dive with dolphins, or white water raft ower the falls
Aw! These are a wee bit dangerous, perhaps something safer calls...
No! ma minds made up, adrenalines pumping , now I've made ma choice
I'm aff tae join a parachute team and scream – till I lose ma voice!

So, aff I go tae sign ma fate wi a Skydiving Club that I've found
I'll learn tae jump oot fae a plane and free fall tae the ground.
Then up in the clouds, all puffy white, the instructor shouts "we're here!"
I tighten up my safety straps, I'm ready tae jump when its clear.

Ma nerves are jingling I must be mad, what am I doing up here?
A "high octane feeling" in ma gut, gets worse as the time draws near
The door's open noo, its time tae jump, but there's nae time fir a prayer
Ye'll dae this once, ye tell yersel, but yer nae daein this nae mair!

Then all at once I'm oot the door, caught up in a current of air
Next I'm falling like a stone in a pond, yet I dinnae really hiv a care
I pull ma cord and get yanked up, then float doon nice and slow.
Och! drifting away, this feels sae guid – till I see the ground below!

I batter down on the rough hard ground, yet I'm away fae all the trees..
Free falling is pure brilliant - if ye mind tae pad oot yer knees!
Noo, some folks ask 'wid ye dae it again?'... well I wid... I can honestly say
The boost tae ma mood fair perked me up, even though I got carried away!
