Entre cuentos, copuchas y comadreos: our stories of friendship and migration

Saturday 22 November | 10:15-15:15

Glasgow Storytelling, Workshop Adults

If you have any questions or for more information regarding software or accessibility, please contact the organiser directly.

As Latin American women, telling each other stories is something that we do all the time – from anecdotes and memories to snippets of our lives, we like to have a wee blether whenever we can. Yet, we don’t often see ourselves as narrators in our own right, with voices that matter and are much needed.

As part of this year’s Book Week Scotland, Libros con L de Latinas and the Village Storytelling Centre invite you to a storytelling workshop where we will explore the connections between our friendships and migrations. In addition to our usual reading, this time we will put ourselves in the place of the narrator. With the help of our dear compañera and professional storyteller Trinidad Cabezón, we will learn techniques to identify stories and share them using our own voices, form and style. At the end, we will come together to listen and share our creations.

This workshop is open to women of Latin American heritage only and will run fully in Spanish. We have designed it to suit all abilities, no matter how much experience or confidence you have in storytelling! What to expect? We will meet on a Saturday morning at the Woodlands Community Meeting Room, in the West End of Glasgow. The workshop will run for 3 hours and we will offer light refreshments and comfort breaks.

Some important things to consider:

  • This workshop is exclusively open to women* of Latin American heritage.
  • It will run fully in Spanish.
  • This event is free but ticketed so please make sure to register. All materials will be provided.
  • We reserve the right of admission based on the above.

We look forward to sharing stories together!

*This space is open to trans women, and intersex and non-binary people who are comfortable in a space that centres the experiences of women.

Libros con L de Latinas is a community-led initiative that seeks to connect Latin American women living in Scotland through the power of books, conversations and creative activities. Created by four Latinas with a passion for reading and books, we exist to highlight and celebrate the voices of Latinas in the publishing world and in our own communities.

Trinidad Cabezón is a Chilean community storyteller with more than a decade of experience. She currently works at the The Village Storytelling Centre where she combines her love for stories and her passion for community to deliver storytelling workshops for adults. Trinidad uses storytelling to empower communities and help them find their own voices. Her stories often include themes related to nature, feminism and magical realism.

The Village Storytelling Centre is Scotland’s leading applied storytelling organisation, based in Pollok, Glasgow. Through innovative projects and partnerships, it uses the power of story to inspire, connect, and empower individuals and communities. We champion contemporary oral storytelling as a tool for expression, well-being, and positive change.
