In the first half of the 19th century the strawplaiting industry employed thousands of women in Orkney. They produced fine strawplait which was used to make bonnets. The industry collapsed and this craft has mostly been lost over time in the islands.
In this workshop Sue Knowles will demonstrate how to plait straw and you can even have a go yourself.
